Oh jeeze OF COURSE. I think I am a better guitar player than Jack, and many of the people on these boards probably are. Jack, in my opinion, is a great musician and has some wonderful songs, but he is in no way a great guitar player. I think probably 90% of all his songs are barre chords, with a few little fills in there sometimes. He has a few little fingerpicking songs, too.

Hey, be nice :-P JJ is definitely not as talented, but he doesn't need to be really talented because of the simple style of guitar he plays. He plays barre chords, and does a good job of it, but its not hard...

jack johnson isn't as good of a guitar player in my opinion either...but it's a totally different style...jack mixes great/mellow vocals with his playing and he can make virtually any guitar sound good with his voice...i saw him boston a month or two ago and was quite impressed...(don't shoot me for this) but i recently watched a John Mayer DVD and I honestly believe he's a better guitarist than Dave...just my opinion, but even if your not a Mayer fan, give his DVD a chance (from a musicians standpoint) and you may be impressed...peace

well i have always thought that Mayer is a better guitarist, but Jack I think just doesnt have as much experience I guess, so he hasnt expanded his playing very much.

:D Jack's music is great for camp fire songs. I played Flake over the 4th of July weekend for my friends at a campout and it was cool cause evryone knew all the words and was singing along.

Ya...I agree with the fact that Mayer is technically a better guitar player...However I don't like his songs, live performances, or voice as well as Dave's...

As far as Jack Johnson goes, he really hasn't been playing long, comparitively, and you can tell. He maily uses barre chords and a skank rythm. But he is progressing, you can tell a difference between the first and second cd's...

btw...sorry if i was rude earlier...although it is a stupid question

WHAT?!?!?

*pulls out his 270 and nails tjmac in the temple and grins when headshot sign appears in the upper-right corner of his screen*

Sorry, I'm a Texan who hunts and plays Counter-Strike. What can I say?

Anywho, getting back to the topic at hand... we've had this "argument" many times on the board and the general consensus is Mayer is a better guitar player than dave but just can't match him rhythmically, lyrically. And I have Any Given Thursday. It is slaptastic.

...John Mayer always gave me kind of a feminine vibe when I watched him live...

...but that's just my opinion...

EDIT: By "him" I was referring to John Mayer...

...barely caught that one...
i sense a little bit of homophobia....

is it a bad thing this "gay vibe"?

You may not like him but "gay vibe" might have been an innappropriate description...

I'm not homophobic...

I have just spent too much time these past few years in the back woods of Tennessee while my dad doctored mountain folk...so I guess it rubbed off...

Your objection is noted, and the comment adjusted...

Although my comment had nothing to do with my liking/disliking him as an artist...It was merely an observation...

He is very talented and I like some of his music...I just senced that he was not as masculine as some performers from what I watched...

(I hoped the this post was PC in hopes of not offending anyone with a slight sensitivity to anything)...
