Next Cover Contest?

Unread post by Roastbeef » Thu Jul 03, 2003 12:59 pm

Pick your song. This poll will run for 7 days in which time we will define the "rules" in this thread.

The poll system here only allows for 10 options. I could not include the following suggestions:

Grace is Gone
Two Step
Watchtower
WWYS

If you'd really like to do one of those simply reply to the thread indicating so and don't vote...

Remember, this is the "newbie" contest.....meaning that its for the less-talented.

Woot, this is gonna be fun. I've gotta get crackin' and get my contest voting system finished. Anyway.

I voted for TS, although almost anything would be cool - watchtower would be badass.

Okay, just wanted to let you all know that I finished the system (haven't done graphics for it yet, but it works great) and we can certainly use it for this contest - I'm going out of town and won't be back until sunday, maybe monday of next week so it will have to wait until then.

See you when I get back.

I just wanted to make sure that this is the newbie contest. Is that the verdict? Okay...well if it is, do you think we could do another one for everyone? Maybe the same song as the newbie contest, but a different poll and thread.

Again, determining "newbie-ness" is a rather subjective thing. I would say leave this open to all...

Although the idea of an advanced "contest" and (let's say) intermediate "contest" with the same song is a pretty neat idea. Perhaps people who feel they are intermediates will receive feedback that they're good enough to compete (using term lightly ;) ) with the more advanced performers here.

Thoughts?

I personally think that bartender would be a great song for a newbie contest (one that i'll be entering). Because while it has simple chords, one can easily bring out emotion in the song through the singing and the ocasional improv. But hey, thats just my vote

All righty, it's about as done as it will ever be. I didn't want to burden myself with having to do graphics for it, so it's pretty damn plain with a cheesy banner, but I figure graphics don't matter much. Anywho, I'll leave the data (I just inputted random votes + entries to test out the system) up and you all can see it here:

http://dmbtabs.brockinc.com/

Please feel free to vote so I can do a small stress test and make sure it won't slow down with more than 5 votes in the system, and offer any suggestions you would like (except changing the ranking system, it's a bitch to change and I ain't doin it).

I've been out for a few days, is this contest still a go? If so, have we decided on a song? Let me know, this newbie wants to play!

Damn Trippin, thats awesome. I think its perfect for what we're doing. I like the idea of ranking them too...that way even if youre dead last you still get a few points. Heh. :)

Ya, that's how we used to do them, tico used to run a thread where you would post
1st - here
2nd - here
3rd - here

and he would calculate points for each vote and stuff. But he's off in the mother country so I figured this would work good too :)
