warehouse muting advice

Unread post by seth_southerland » Tue Dec 21, 2004 2:06 pm

recently i have found myself playing warehouse just about perfectly, and it came after i discovered a way of muting that worked better than what i was doing before
i find that on the first part of the verse, when you play the 7xxxxx -> x9xxxx -> xx11xxx part, that if you keep your index finger down the whole time, you can continue to use it to mute for the other two chords

then when you switch to the xxx7xx, use the index to play the 7 and mute the rest, then when you switch to xx9xxx, keep your index down so that it will mute the gbe strings while playing the 9 with the middle finger, then on the final chord, use the middle to mute all the other strings, while playing the 10 with the ringer

also, if you have the basic ability to play a c chord without hitting the low e string, you dont need to worry about hitting the strings that you shouldnt be hitting at all

Hmm..I always thought leaving your finger down was a given..that's how I've always done it..I find warehouse to be one of the easiest, honestly. I have more trouble with songs like raven and ykn..

I've been playing this song that way since I started, great advice but nothing someone who knows how to play it shouldn't know.

About the bold, to mute E, Dave and I use our thumb when making the 'C' shaped chord and it mutes out the E so yea...

I don't think Dave does it that way, but that's what I've always done.

I do it like this too, mainly because when I go to C formation that far down the neck my thumb can't reach around to mute the E string.

Who am I kidden... it was just the easier, lazier way to learn it lol.
