fretless basses

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

fretless basses

Unread post by i am sam2 » Sat Nov 27, 2004 5:47 pm

im thinking about getting a fretless so im wondering, under 1000, what do you think i should go for? fender(please excuse your fender bias, because i happen to have one and like it just fine)? warwick(ive played a corvette fretless as well as a fender fretless...like them both...)? anything else?

as i said, ive played warwick and fender fretlesses and liked them both, just wondering what you guys think about this stuff. any pointers on neck wood i should try to find?

im considering goin with a fender jazz fretless and then putting EMGs on it for a warmer feel...any one have any suggestions on good pickups for fretless?
thanks

Look into the MTD Kingston or Heir. I had one a couple years ago-- the new models have active electronics and you can get a nice wood top. Very good build quality, especially for the price, which should be well under $1000. I ordered mine through Bass Central-- their website is http://www.basscentral.com-- give them a call.

Warwick Corvettes are solid basses. Really can't go wrong with them lol. No way on the Quantum for under 1000...at least from what I've seen. Where did you get your's, Lessard?

A Fender Jazz might do the trick, but they have sorta slow necks compared to others. I like them, but some don't. Also, EMGs probably would do just the opposite. Compared to, for instance, Bartolini's, you'd probably be bringing out the high end more with EMGs, or at least from what I've experienced. Hope that helps!

i just feel like for a fretless id have to get a corvette because warwicks feel so "natural" with all the exposed wood and stuff...it just feels like to have a fretless, something so pure, id need to get as close to that as i can....dont know why, but i feel this way and its makin me not like other basses....
