Thanks for any help.

When I was looking I was in the same range. I played many guitars, (Taylor Big Baby, Martin DM, Martin D-15, Dean Exoticas, Seagulls, Takamines) and ended up w/one that I never though I would.
I bought a Washburn D10SCE (D10 Spruce Cutaway with Electronics). It listed @ $499 but I got it for $299. I guess I was looking for a Martin or Taylor b/c of the name, but this honestly sounded much better than anything else I had played. I think I got lucky b/c I played a buddy's Washburn, same model, but in 12 string and I didn't like it all that much.
I really wanted a Dean b/c they were so pretty, but I hated the sound. I'd be careful about buying guitars online unless they have a great return policy. Since all guitars, even the same models, sound different, it really is a gamble as to what you'll end up with.
Just go to the store, hopefully a big one like Guitar Center, and play EVERYTHING in your price range. You'll find the one that's meant for you b/c you won't be able to stop thinking about it. Then go online and price it there (it'll be cheaper). Then go back to the store and ask them if they can match or at least work w/you on the price. 9 times ouf of 10 they will if they know you're buying right then and there.
Remember: more expensive does not always mean better!
Good luck!

I know Ebay gives good prices or whatever...but one of my main philosophies before buying is not to unless you've played it first. so the Ebay thing doesn't work for me, you probably wanna go used as much as i hate to say it, big chains usually ahve better prices than small guitar shops because they buy in bulk...i got my martin in a guitar world and haggled a hundred bucks off of the original price. so don't look at the asking price always either
