jimi drums

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

i just dont see how drum tabs could be much different than standard drum notation

It isnt, but I just look down on the word "tab" for drums. I dont know, call me contridictive. I dont use notation any more. I feel I am at the point that I can "perfect" a song by just knowing the basic idea nd playing along and getting the fills as I go. It doesnt take more then a week for me to a get non-jazz song perfect (and not an easy one). However, I might spend the same amount of time going through a Elvin Jones or Philly Joe Jones solo and still not have it "perfect". I have to write out those kinds of things.

ok, first off, ill say i dont know anything about drums and im not claiming to. but if you drummers insist on drumming being an instrument(which, in my opinion, it most certainly is, just as much as anything else) and if you insist that it is an art, which it is, then you cant really say theres a wrong way to do it can you? i say, for any instrument, everyone has their own way and you cant really call someone elses way wrong

No, but you can call it distasteful and an insult to musicianship.

beau, why you such an ass to all the new members? You gonna scare them away. Every point you make can be said in a much nicer way and still get the point across.

He's completely right in my opinion..People should be asking for drum tabs because it's more of an ear or sheet music thing. Josh made a good point, only fretted instruments should be tabbed.. if you tab a violin part out, and play it, it might not sound exactly right because violin is about hearing and reproducing a sound. someone's 4th fret on a violin might be different then someone else's. Drum tabs are an insult to musicianship and BK said.

Why did we dig up a nearly 5 month old post?

Let me know when I care. Ive met quite a few REAL jazz musicians and they are all jackasses. They have very little respect for music other then jazz. Why? Because they base their opinion souly on musicianship. It is not the most complicated thing, it is the best fit thing. And in between, you can add your chops to better support the song.
