Original Fingerpicked riff

Unread post by Speenis » Tue Dec 14, 2004 7:11 pm

Here's something I came up with last night. Its fingerpicked using all 5 of my right fingers. It's nothing special, just something I like to jam to. I'm tuned down a half step because I have been playing AIC a lot so I figured I would try to write something with this tuning. Let me know what you think.

the riff gets repetitive....i would try adding some pretty substantial variation to build off of that main riff

it's a good riff with a cool sound, but i think you should try and develop the whole more so it's more of a complete song

and, if you're fingerpicking, maybe try and pick it out more instead of a lot of the strumming that's in there

thanks for the post

i would turn down the treb and get more bass in. Pretty cool tho. It doesnt sound like fingerpicking... so if you wanna keep it the way it is, lol use a pick. also agree with matty

I agree with matty boy. It gets pretty repetive, and the riff is a pretty standard riff. try adding some sus's or something.

Also, try not fingerpicking it with all 6 fingers. Try using the technique where you get that sweeping sound with just three fingers. i believe its technically called "raking". it comes naturally.

Yeah, I shouldn't really have said song. Just some riff I've been playing a lot. Any ideas on where I should go with it? I'm thinking about what you said and emphasize the fingerpicking then maybe playing some chords for a chorus, then some other picking for a breakdown.

Yeah, for some reason it wasn't very bassy so I even added a bass boost to it.

I think I know what you mean about the raking. I actually started just using three fingers and my thumb for the bass notes then I added my pinky, no big difference I guess.

use a thumb pick, or use a pick in combination with your fingers.. the best way to go..
