first time playing live

Unread post by Dutch » Sun Dec 12, 2004 6:40 pm

had my first experience playing in front of a lot of people last night, and it was pretty wicked. it was my schools talent show, and myself and a couple buddies decided to play ants marching. we had two guitars and a djembe. i thought we sounded pretty good. anyways... we were playing, and i wastrying to focus in on playing b/c i have to try to play the rythem parts/try to throw in some lead/ sing all at once, but then at one point i looked out into the auditorium and it was pitch black, except for about fifty ofmy closest friends waving their cell phones in the air. its about the closest ill ever get to a lighter ovation at a huge concert, but it was a damn sweet experience

Sounds awesome. Congrats.

I'm doomed to a life of severe stage fright so consider yourself very lucky.
Did you say FIFTY of your closest friends? It's gotta make it a bit easier when you have a small army supporting you.

Nice. The most ive played for was about 200 at a picnic. But not all 200 were in the same place at once, they were walking around a huge farm like place. And nobody was really listening to me and the power went out a couple times so the sound system got messed up it was weird. But anything for a performance.

I once played at an open mic for three people. I was asked to play at the grand opening of something or another but they havent called so i guess they dont want me anymore.

I played "live" I guess you could say, for my first time, on December 3rd, at my talent show. There were maybe just under 200 people there.

You need a license to play on the streets here.

You need a permit almost everywhere it just depends on how much of an ass the police want to be about it.

Hard to get probably not but a pain to get probably yea. You would have to go to city hall and fill out forms and crap like that.

I say just play and if they say something act like you didnt know.

Key West is always like that. I go quite a bit, and eveywhere you look there is somebody playing some instrument trying to make money...its kind of like New Orleans.
