Young teenager playing dave at school

Unread post by musicalman865 » Sat Dec 11, 2004 1:12 am

I took my little brother to an open-mic night the other day and it was about the end of the show, it was about 8:45 and it was suppose to end around 9 when the only kid looked around 14 or so doing a solo walked on stage really red, sweaty, and shyly with a martin. i forgot what kind exactly but it was a cut-away,but he looked mad nervous, and all of the sudden the most beautiful rift came out at he stepped up to the microphone and nailed that c i couldnt believe it, it was an acoustic version of Raven! The kid was amazing, the verse sounded so in time and each riff that was being played perpetually was all perfect and sounded the same, his strumming through the chorus was perfect when it goes to Dm and not to mention his singing was awesome.all the right notes and didn't make a mistake with the lyrics. Then he played an acoustic verion of the song Blackbird from the beatles! That song is very beautiful and was played perfectly! And then another treat, the lights dimmed out for a minute or so with some speaker noises, then when the lights appeared again you could see him with the acoutic guitar with the capo on the 7th fret, I didn't think it would be another dave song because dave doesnt usually play with capos, but all of the sudded a Bm chord was struck and all of the sudden i realized it was Stay or Leave! Even though it was on a capo, it sounded beautiful and the kid made no mistakes with picking or anything and that was his last song, the crowd even got louder for him. There was one more band after that, but that kid was as I thought the best of them all.

There's lots of young, talented guitarists out there. Go google Jimmy Bowskill, I saw him at a festival in the summer, the kid ripped.

Probably not, a 22 year old has more experiance

Thats why Tony Royster made a name for himself. He was 12 years old playing some of the meanest drum solo's. If you are younger than you probably have less experiance and I would be impressed b/c the kid has so much potential when he does gain experiance

How so? I started when I was 17, but that doesn't mean the 22-year-old didn't just decide to start playing.

im not tryin to knock the kid, or the guy that posted, or put myself on a pedistool. its just atleast around here, me and my friends catch allot of shit when we go places with our guitars, or ask to play someone elses, or go to a guitar store cause were young, until we play that is... we got some odd looks once in a store, my friend played pride and joy on an MK dragonfly, the guy walks in, you know, uhh we got some PRS's behind the counter... a MAJOR gibson store (not the showcase) up in nashville was thinking about offering us jobs while we were there... sooo its just theres just allot of people that assume if your 14 and 15 you can play worth shit.
