Well a D-35 is one of martins nicer guitars, so I would say it is of higher value. But it's used, so you have to judge the condition.
But value is hard to judge, because so much is based upon personal preference. A "14" and a dread are different body styles, and the taylor has a mahogany back and sides, but the 35 has rosewood. Most people prefer rosewood, but not everyone, so check it out for yourself.
One thing I can suggest; dont get a "ce", although the taylor expression system sounds amazing, it is not worth $400-$500. I have a sunrise pickup that sounds great and is only $170 and you can switch ot out on each of your guitars.

almost always solid wood guitars get better sounding with age. Depending on when the martin was built i might hold on to it and save up about 800 and try to get a 314 on ebay or something. i have a 414 and a taylor dread and i like the playability of my 414 much more cause it fits so nicely into my leg but my dread is just a cannon that sounds so awesome. thats a tough one but i think the d35 is worth much more even though its used.Coldchillin23222 wrote:Sometimes guitars that age sound better...Just my $.02

How old is the Martin??? It its a just a year or two old I would go with the Taylor, but if the Martin is 7-8 years old, still sounds nice, and doesn't have any major flaws I would go with the Martin.

the martin is from 1982, know that i think of it...i would be crazy to let it go. i have grown attached to it. i can buy a new taylor but it would be harder to find this guitar

Youre right, but there isnt a universal mahagoany that is being used on all guitars(Like indian rosewood). Some of it is honduran, some of it is African, and some of it is sapele. They do have a little different sounds and looks, but Sapele is much closer to african mahogany than it is to any piece of indian rosewood.shane wrote:yeah, but theyre still different. you dont refer to cocobolo as rosewoodjuineaux wrote:Sapele is a kind of mahogany-shane wrote:the Taylor 314 is sapele.
