holy thread resurrection, for a second I thought Tico, john, cave and gravedigger were back. This babys almost a year old. I dont understand how a thread this old just gets resurrected with no mention of it, as if the last post was a few hours ago

at Good & Loud Music, where I live and trust, their policy is this: You have to play it before you buy it. I go in there all the time, sometimes not even for anything. I chat with the staff, and they get guitars down for me, and leave me alone for an hour in rooms, or comes and talks to me about guitars. I could go in everyday and play, and they wouldn't give a damn. I am also one of their frequent and loyal customers, so they don't even suspect anything of me, ever.

Ward Brodt Music Mall here, on the other hand, don't like you playing guitars for over 5 minutes. Well, Good and Loud would tell you to turn it down if it was bugging someone else, but not tell you to stop playing.

Everyone should just go to Good and Loud Music . . .

Good & Loud Music, can't say it enough :-D

That's when you get his name and write a nasty letter to corporate or his boss or whomever.

That's poor customer service indeed.

I went to the "larger guitar in the world" in Las Vegas. Yeah...you're not allowed to play any guitars there. My brother in law asked to see one guitar, the Kerry King sig model. They got it down for him, and the salesman held it the WHOLE time. They basically talked to us like we were homeless people with no money the whole time we were there. My brother in law wound up coming back to Iowa and buying an ESP Kirk Hammett signature and Marshall combo, which he was actually allowed to play at a local shop.

I go to a local store all the time where I know all the guys and I'm on a first name basis with them. They have signs up all over that they "We'd love to hear you play, please ask for assistance" But I can pretty much play anything I want.

I was told that those signs are for the 12 years olds that come in thinking they're Jimi Hendrix and pick up a 1500 guitar with a metal zipper scratching the shit out of it while he's wailing away on an A chord. That actually happened, which is why they have the signs now.

I usually don't go to guitar stores when I'm out of town, because they usually treat you like scum unless you look like you have tons of cash. The smaller guitar shops are great though. You feel like family when you walk in there.

I get booted out of the acoustic room sometimes (usually after playing for 2 or 3 hours). They don't seem to have a problem with the guitars (I play Taylors $3000+) but with other customers wanting in. The other customers don't mind, though. I usually have a nice conversation with them, even suggest guitars and point out pros and cons, and there's always a bit of jamming. Of well. Nowadays if I see someone I just wander around the store to let them in if they wanted to play alone. Eh.

Either that or I go to Music-Go-Round because they'll let you plug in and jam -- really jam with a bunch of people and everything until the store closes. That's the relaxed store with cool people, good place to be.

By the way, last night before the show Doyle was wandering around...getting swamped with questions, I'm sure, so I went in the "sound-proof" room and played this semi-hollow body Epiphone... Holy crap, it was great. Only about $700, too. Great sounding guitar. It really screams when you get up there around E6-F6+ too. Great for rock solos.
