the chet is a jazz guitar
I believe he was reffering to an SST model (like Dave used back in the days of Red Rocks)...but yes, Gibson has some jazz guitars that bear the Chet Atkins name...

yes i mean the SST, we dont reffer to the CE as the chet... and the chet is a jazz guitar, you can get both jazz and acoustic sounds outa it.

well I owned one and never did I get a "jazz" sound out of it...an electric acoustic sound...very piezo souding...not really warm and velvety (what we would usually ascociate with jazz)...it sounds clean, but nowhere in the ballpark of jazz if you want a jazz sound or a "jazz guitar", but a Gibson ES classic like a 335...or any type of archtop...

maybe you are thinking of "solid body" and "clean" when describing a jazz guitar, but no...the Gibson Chet Atkins SST is nowhere near a jazz oriented guitar

and who do you mean "we" and "around here"?

well i dont see why you feel the need to flame me. as for me not being a veteran, not saying i am, but you have holy shit!!! 3 months more than me. i dont care how long people have been here. i dont try to sound like the most learned person here i know im not, i guess ill stop answering questions. and ive had people tell me, seen jazz people play a chet, and when ive played chets ive gotten a sound thats both acoustic, and good for jazz. now the epi chet, all you get is acoustic, i know that... but the gibson you can get some jazz outa it.... and i couldnt give a flying fuck if you care, i know an gib ES is better for jazz.

sorry film... but the chet, gibson or epi, is by no means a jazz guitar. you can play any style of music on any guitar... but just cause you play rock on a classical does not make it a rock guitar. the gibson is more versatile when you compare it to the epi, but just put it up against like a lucile? nuthin. i believe these solid body piezo guitars have their own niche...

btw: (and this is not about you guys specifically) but i wish people would understand that you can have a conversation between people with differing views and not have it be an "argument". mah damn parent dont understand that either...

edit: heh freinds...

jazzy styles sounded good on my chet, but without the right pick-ups and the "wound third", it is hard to get that "chunky-velvet" tone out of such a "brittle"- bright guitar

but jazz can be use to specify many things...I think Dave Matthews has a real strong jazz influence...but if I would e a fool to call him a jazz guitarist...I think it parallels our little dispuite here...

speaking of jazz guitarists, if you have a few bucks, pick up some Pat Metheny TRIO ;)
its enought to make you break your Gibson ES...assuming you had one

I don't think they do, actually. They have a classical version of the Chet Atkins though. I've never heard of or seen a gibson jazz chet atkins
