its a type of mic. anyway, i have more questions. Why do some USB unit has so many outputs? dont you plug your guitar and mics into input?

i need to record vocal and multiple guitars thats all. is a condenser necessary? do dynamic mics need power cable plug? cuz mine got a plug like a cable from an electric guitar.

I don't know much about this but I can tell you what I do know. Maybe someone else could elaborate.

There are a few ways you can go with this. If you wanna use a usb port you would need some sort of interface to plug the mic's and guitar in to. I've heard really good things about Digidesigns m-box which you plug into your usb port. It's a bit pricey though.

Another way you could go would be to buy an external sound card that has some rca in/outs. Creative have some reasonably priced ones. Then you would need a mixer. A 4 channel behringer eurorack would work well and it's theyre well priced too. Then you just plug your mic's and guitars into that.

Hope that helps.

Unless you need more than 2 simultaneous inputs DON'T buy a mixer. Instead you should get the highest quality pre-amp you can afford. A mixer is designed to take a bunch of sound sources and send them to multiple places . While most mixers include mic pre's they are usually not nearly as good as a dedicated unit. If you don't need a bunch of simultaneous inputs don't waste your money on a mixer that has channels your not gonna use. For someone who doesn't record with a band there's almost no reason to have more than two inputs.

Also, if you don't intend to do live shows than your first mic choice should be a large diaphragm condenser like a Studio Projects B1, or a M-Audio Nova. These mic's are more delicate and not intended for stage use but in a contolled recording environment they'll give you the best sound for your money.

I think (don't quote me) that it's a generality that instruments are usually recorded with a condensor mic and vocals are usually done with a Dynamic mic. Of course you can reverse this, but I've heard it's best to put instruments thru a condensor, and vocals thru a dynamic. Secondly, once it's in the computer your gonna need some software to do your multi tracking. Cool Edit Pro is what I use, but there are alot of good programs.

If you get a condenser mic, you will undoubtedly need a mixer, being that the conderser mic requires phantom power. The mixer, as said above, will do you much other good too.

You need to do some research before spending this money.

slimerdmb24 is right. You'll need phantom power to provide the +48v to the mics.

i doubt it... and you dont need a mixer, some mixers dont even have phantom capabilities... you can also look into an external phantom power suppy

i would reccommend getting a decent mixer with 4 to 8 mic inputs.. it will have mic pres and probably phantom power... check out mackies
