i would definitely recomend learning the dave way for tripping billies cause it puts your fingers in better position for the verse. as for grey street, i am just now learning that and can't seem to get it down. i am really having trouble with muting to just two strings on that one....maybe because it doesn't progress the same way billies does?

i agree, i thought a lot of people did it "the dave way." I've actually never thought about playing it with just the index finger and one of the other two, it doesnt seem easy to me. Isn't that a lot more work? Before i heard about this site i did it dave way. I didnt think about it much. i just did it. You should do billies intro like that one guy said. its much more efficient from my perspective.

why does dave use those chords so much? like A LOT.

This would be very hard to play.

it doesn't hurt to learn the way he plays those chords in the billies beginning (not nature intro---the Grey St. chords...) changing from "indexand middle", to "ring and pinky"...it puts you in position for many more chord possibilities...the more ways to play something you know, the more original and cool you can get another song to sound ;)

do the tabs on this site tell you to mute the d-string? why? both the songs are in D, just let the d string ring out :)

Practice, my friend. Practice. It gets easier. I can run through this song for hours and it doesn't hurt. It almost becomes intuitive and it's a really fluid change once you get it down. It looks cool too. 8)

Did you listen to my MP3?

god my left hand for fingering is pretty damn good considering that I've only been trying to teach myself for like 6 months I think I got the fingering down but I am so damn rythemless It drives me nuts anyone have any suggestions for me to get my right hand going other than just the boring up and down stuming that I cant get away from. I just need some more soul in my playing style and I dont know if that can be learned or if it is just talent

just trap the string with your left hand, and play some withthe right...nothing will teach you but practice...I have found that my hand is alway going with the beats...I just pick and choose when I want the guitar to make a noise or not ny trapping, muting, palm mutine, stuttered chops...just keep your hand moving...i.e. John Mayer on Neon...he keep the same motion, but just picks out what he wants you to hear...tapping your foot might help...do whatever it take, because you can know all the chords and be the most talented in the left hand, but without rythm, you will be lost without a drummer... 8)

Jay no worries. It gets really easy. I picked it up very quickly, and it sounds really good too. Just practice a crap load and it'll get htere.

i'm close now...it's frustrating cause i wanna go back to the "old" away because it sounds so much better....but i think this way will be better in the long run, it's more punchy and the rhythm is a lot stronger...and i can tell it's building my pinky strength cause it hurts!!
