Loose Rod!!

Unread post by JTR101 » Mon Nov 29, 2004 11:42 am

I've been told that my guitars truss rod is loose you can hear it rattle when you rap the neck, and its causing some buzz in my open strings(checked the tuning keys and everything else that might be causing it!)!!

I'm just wondering if there are any minor adjustments that i can do to remedy this myself, or should i jsut bring it somewhere to get it checked out by a pro??

Any Ideas??

err.. ifn your truss rod is rattlin in your neck then it is either broken (costly repair) or just REALLY REALLY REALLY loose. in which case your neck should be bent way towards the bridge... try to tighten it slowly, if there is no improvement after a revolution or 2 then its broken and my heart weeps for you.

what kinda guitar?

and usually buzzing on opens is because your string is hitting a fret, usually a high one like 20

its not your rod, at least you hope not.... its prolly ringing on a fret, or your tuning machines are rattling...

Yeah i was told to just tighten it slightly by the guy at the Guitar shop when i discussed it with him......and if that didn't work than i was pretty much screwed!! So i think i'll give that a try first and see what happens!!

Its definitely not the tuning machines......been tightenened, checked and checked again! And almost 99.9% sure there is no fret buzz .....

Anyone know what size allen key is used on a Washburn D10sce.....is it 5 mm ???

if your truss is fucked don't try to fix it your self..this kid in my theory class said he tried to go into the next through the finger board and get it back into place and the neck cracked into four.

I've seen it happen before but only because the neck of the guitar looked like a Banana before the guy tried to adjust it!!!

I just want an actual diagnosis before i start fooling with it....i know if i make a small adjustment it can be changed back pretty easily! And that was all that was recommended just to tighten the truss rod maybe and 1/8 of a turn or less to just see if it makes a difference!!
