harmonicas are tuned diatonically, in other words, they can pnly play one key. a G major harmonica cannot play anything else but the notes in the G major scale, so to play in all keys, you need twelve different harmonicas

It's usually pretty easy to tell what key your harmonica is in. My friend just bought one and I've been jamming with him. Only in C, but it's still a hell of a good time.
