Dreaming Tree Full Cover

Unread post by firedancer86 » Sun Jun 22, 2003 12:01 am

Please take a listen and tell me what you think...I wanna know if I should do more covers like this (almost air acoustic/unplugged deal)...or should I stick to simple D&T style as usual...

and by the way, did you change stuff from before, or just add vocals? it sounds all-around better.

Fire, I hope you don't get offended with my comments.. 'cause your level or performance is consistently better than most, so I think you should hear the littler details that are glazed over..

To start with, you play guitar really well and have an awesome voice.. but those things aside I think there are couple things about this particular recording to be said.. First off, I'm not sure how many guitar layers there are, but the verses get pretty thick.. In your improvs, I feel like you are just playing me notes that work and not really taking me anywhere.. which brings me to the next thing, going into the 4:09 phrase change feels really wierd; I think maybe you just aren't entirely comfortable with 7/8 time.. And at 4:12 there, your punch-in is dramatic

I really like the way you have arranged this.. I just think the verses need maybe one less guitar in it.. otherwise, I think sounds sweet; I particularly like the way you put together the outro. Keep up the good work.. and if you want me to hold back my comments in the future, feel free to say so, and I'll keep my mouth shut

Thanks everyone...

and geekmuk, no offense taken man  it would be only to my advantage to glean what I could from your post :)

In the verses, I have the main guitar track and what I tried to pull off as a bass line...I also have the "thuds" on the guitar...the bass track might be ill-mixed if that is what you mean by a "busy" part...in verse two, I intro a faint octave up for the Dm...

and as for the 7/8, I am a tad confused as to how I missed that...probably did, but how :?

i\In any case, I am big enough to take any comments and pull what I can from them...so thanks again everyone... :)

that was super fire! the beginning was a little to busy for my taste, but the rest was kickass!

you should keep it just the way it is... screw D&T style! like the Fleetwood Mac song says, you can go your own way dammit (ok i added the dammit but i thought it would be more effective that way :) )

I haven't really liked this song before. If I had to choose a worst song from Streets it would be this one (remember, COMPARITIVELY SPEAKING). But I really enjoyed this one. You definitely to the best covers, no contest. Your voice is so great doing Dave songs. I will always make sure to listen to every cover you do.

Wow, this is an amazing cover! Firedancer, you have some incredible talent, keep it up! And you should definitely write some stuff of your own, I'm sure you can go very far with your excellent guitar playing and great voice!

thanks man :)

I do write my own stuff...I have about a dozen done...I might add some lyrics later, but unless I am feeling it, I don't wanna try to force it...

this one gets alot of good feedback...

a jazzy speratic improv I ended up putting some form to...
http://www.cadenzaspell.com/october.mp3

and this one was recorded...improv that I am trying to put form to...
http://www.cadenzaspell.com/inthelight.mp3

most all my stuff is just a step above improv...in other words, I have a thought, play with it, try to remember it, then hit the record button and add to it...from there, I find what I like and if I think I can revamp it, I do...if you are still interested, I have alot more...

thanks again
