That which keeps this board alive...

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

That which keeps this board alive...

Unread post by firedancer86 » Mon Jun 23, 2003 9:20 pm

I must say, that this is the most user-friendly community there is in the music world (that I know of ;)).

Almost all other boards (as good as they are) get bogged down...why is that?

I say it is because this place is kept light and fun...I go to some other boards, and the people are crazy...it just gets too serious and becomes a clique (sp?)...heavy debate and heated posting do not add up to fun.

I love this place, everybody is allowed to just have fun :D

let us work to keep it that way

i agree, even though this is the only message board i ever come to. the usual patrons are real laid back and cool.

I think the reason these boards do so well, as opposed to some of the others that I've used, is in the fact that no one here is ever treated badly for being new. Other boards I visit always seem to look down upon you as if you can't posibly know what your talking about if you have under a gazillion posts, or if you haven't been a member since the "early days." Everyone here is treated with respect, and no one would ever slam you if you asked a question that has been asked a million times already. So much gratitude goes out to all the fellow board memebers who make this place so great for me and everyone else.

I don't agree with you guys really. I mean, look at Nancies.org, they treat newbies ten times nicer than anyone else. If anyone asks what kind of guitar, strings, picks dave uses, everybody answers them so politely.

hahaha

i understand their position too though. i've been on nancies since '99 or 2000 or so, and after a while, the same questions DO get annoying no matter how friendly you try to be.

people's laziness gets annoying after a while, and i don't really think there is anything wrong with that. so many people are too lazy to actually do some research, so they post stuff like "how many albums does the band have?" i mean come on.....it'd be like here if people posted "hey does anyone have a tab for LIOG?"

not really an advocate of being mean in any sort of way, but i do understand when people get fed up...

man I was on nancies for a while and people just get in like huge brawls over there. Over nothing. I would much rather be here. Also the other sites are pretty overwhelming, lots more posts at an astounding rate. Also people over there are super dedicated and have 934256576275625 posts. So, I just like being here better....ROCK ON!!!

First off, I want to say thank you to everyone on these boards that make them so great. What fire said was 100% true, we have a very nice tight little friendly community here. I can personally attest to the fact that this is the best DMB message board on the internet. By no means is it the most "complete," but it is the best.

The main reason for this is that we are a very concentrated group of people. We are all here for two MAIN reasons: our love of DMB & our love of guitar. All the other message boards are full DMB boards with discussions on everything. The first forum on all boards is DMB Discussion. Not here, the first forum is Dave's Guitar Discussion. We have all different kinds of forums here, but there is one main one. After that, the next biggest isn't even DMB Discussion...it's recording. We love guitar & DMB. We don't want to fight over if the 13th minute of 4/17/96's Seek Up was better than the 19th minute of 3/29/99's Seek Up. All we say is, DAMN..HOW THE HELL DOES HE PLAY BOTH OF THOSE....then we try.

I also think one of the reasons behind the laid back atmosphere has to do with moderation by me, pittman, and....well, sometimes....Xoosh(anyone seen him???). We don't do anything special or different, we aren't AMAZING or anything...we have just tried to make sure that the atmosphere here is kept in a relaxed manner. I've noticed everything everyone has said about the other boards and I vowed not to let that happen on mine...it's just not fun to be around all that negativeness(that even a word!?!!?)

That being said, us mods are nothing here. All we are, are just other posters. As I said earlier, this site is what it is(???) because of you guys. I could sit here all day and moderate but I don't even need to. You guys basically run this board now. You answer the questions I do not have time to answer(and my time has been extremely limited lately) and you "moderate" the forum. If someone acts up...it's usually you guys that say somethign to calm them down and explain the idea behind our boards. You guys are the best users any person who runs a site could ask for.

So THANK YOU to you guys. Fire, you mentioned all about this board and how it's great. It's all because of you and everyone else. Pat yourselves on your back guys.......then go strum the ol' geetar to celebrate....PEACE all

there is only one other board I post to on the internet, and it has nothing to do with music. saleenchat.com is great if anyone ever has any car questions, they don't have to deal specifically with saleen's but, I love that site!!!! I have learned so much from both there and here, so much better than sifting through millions of useless sites on the rest of the internet.

Well, I'll just say that I've been registered at nancies since like 99 or so, and I dont even have 200 posts over there. :) This is a great site, with great boards.
