Crush rhythm is very important for the song. the song doesnt have much to it. so you need to like..*make* it sound sweet by playing perfect rhythm. you need to listen to storytellers. audio. off kazaa or something. listen again and again. till you realize how it goes. its not good to be told the strum. hear it. and know it and you will learn to mimic it and begin to feel it. that is how you can figure it out and all other songs eventually. its all feel.
in short ..listen to the song ..alot, and very specifically

hope that helps a bit

Code: Select all

Maybe this will help, maybe it won't. As far as the strumming for each chord, it is basically like this: DD D UDUD D DU. This is hard to explain, for sure, but it is a very simple strumming pattern, which you probably know, but just don't realize it in this song. Cut and paste this to Notepad or Word (Courier New font to see it correctly). No, I didn't just do this, I have had it for a while (I have somewhat of a life  )...

"Crush"… (Each chord corresponds with the lyrics directly below it. If a chord is over the middle of a word, you change chords in the middle of the word)

Verse
E:-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
B:---3----------3----------3-----------2---------------------------------------------------------
G:---x----------0----------2-----------2----------4---------5---------5-------------4------------
D:---4----------4----------x-----------x----------x---------x---------5-------------x------------
A:---2----------2----------x-----------x----------x---------x---------3-------------2------------
D:-------------------------2-----------2----------3---------5------------------------------------

Crazy how it feels tonight crazy how you make it all alright love
Crush me with the things you do and I do for you anything too oh

That should help you with the verse as far as where to change chords. When you end the verse ("feels so right…") you change the last chord, barring the low three strings (as it is on the site.)

Bridge

E:-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
B:-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
G:----------------------------------------------------------5-------------4------------
D:---7----------------------------------9-------------------5-------------x------------
A:---5----------------------------------7-------------------3-------------2------------
D:---5----------------------------------7----------------------------------------------

Lovely lady, I am at your feet.. oh God I want you so badly..
And I wonder this, could tomorrow be.. so wondrous as you there sleeping?

Back into verse…

Then from verse part to chorus goes…

E:------------------------------------------------------------
B:---3-----------------3----------3-----------2---------------
G:---x-----------------0----------2-----------2---------------
D:---4-----------------4----------x-----------x---------------
A:---2-----------------2----------x-----------x---------------
D:--------------------------------2-----------2---------------

..we drink some wine till we get drunk yeah…

Chorus (parenthesis are the fingers for each chord..)

E:-----------------------------------------------------------------
B:-----------------------------------------------------------------
G:---12-(4)--------------12-(4)-----------12-(4)-----------12-(4)--
D:---10-(2)--------------12-(3)-----------10-(1)------------9-(1)--
A:----8-(1)--------------10-(1)-----------10-(1)-----------10-(2)--
D:-----------------------------------------------------------------

It's crazy I'm thinkin' just knowing that the world is
Round and here I'm dancing on the
Ground, am I right side up or upside
Down , is this real (this is how he sings the first chorus on Storytellers, not the album)…

E:--------------------------
B:--------------------------
G:--5----------4------------
D:--5----------2------------
A:--3----------2------------
D:-------------2------------
Or... am I dreaming? (Into "Lovely lady…" or the jam…)

I can't believe that we would lie in our graves wondering if we had spent our living days well, and I can't believe that we would lie in our graves dreaming of things that we might have been...

Dude, this is sweet! Thanks! Do you think you could do that with Grey Street. I can NOT play and sing the verse together at all cause the timing's so goofy. Or I'm a retard. One way or the other.

Hey, I don't think I would have the time to do this for another song right now. But, I will give it to you that Grey Street can be a tough song to sing and play. I think the key is to get some mutes in between the chords, so you keep a constant strumming pattern going. I'm not really sure if Dave just hits the chords once at a time, or mutes in between them (I am pretty sure he does), but if you can do that, it will be easier. And, as with learning ANY song, learn to play the guitar part as perfectly as you can, while playing along with the song, and then slowly add the vocals, so you can eventually sing without even trying to play. Simple, right?

Grey Street timing was tough for me too. I practiced singing to the CD in the car while running through the fingerings (on my air guitar ;) ). I started by just getting the rhythm timing by tapping my leg while singing. That helped a lot.
