blue collar blues - I need a new recording set up

Unread post by katie » Sat Nov 20, 2004 5:37 pm

you guys I have no money and I want to find the cheapest way to record and be able to transfer the file into an mp3 be able to upload to my site.

I was thinking about getting a new mac (with garage band) but that pretty penny would take me MONTHS to save up for.

any ideas. I want to be able to put up some things for you all.

I'm currently using my sister's system (which has no recording software) to stop in and say hello. she uses the mac 9.1 program I believe not the new XOS.

Is there a cheap program I can install in her system? I'm not too concerened with quality at the moment because it's just me and my guitar. I own a tascam four track but the blasted thing has a slow record that when put into a normal tape player sounds entirely slow. There is no switch to kill this and record normal.

dag nabit

I'll be able to stop in after work tonight to listen to some of your guys and gals originals.

blue collar blues,

katie

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/mac.php

They have a (old and unsupported) Mac 9 version - give it a shot to see if it will work.

Oh, and tell your sister to upgrade to Mac OS X! It's leaps and bounds ahead of 9.

The four track sounds crappy in a normal player because you haven't made a master of your recording. You can record on to your four track and then upload it to your computer as well if you know what your doing. Its not really that difficult after a stop at radio shack to buy all the connections you need. I'm not sure what type of tascam four track you have, but you pretty much just need to convert your line outs (RCA jacks) to a microphone connnection. The chain should go something like this:

Tascams Line Outs->RCA to 1/4 stereo y cable->1/4 to 1/8 reducer->computer's recording program.

you guys thanks for the tips! I really appreciate them. Somethings gonna change here soon. My sis just got in the mac X I'm gonna have to buy the software, etc...

perhaps recording on my own is closer than I thought!

It's nice to know the tascam should hook directly up to the computer and a five dollar mic would work and also where to get my new program! = )
