Crash Into Me
Hey everyone! Just wanted to say this is the best website ever created...aside maybe from the offcial dmb fan club. I'm a newbie and have a random question. Doesn't Steffan play the E and A chords for Crash? If not how in the heck are you supposed to play them while strumming? Also in the video it seems like the guitarist is placing his fingers on some of the frets. Isn't there something wrong with that?
E:-------------------------------------------------
B:---5------5----5------5----5------5----5------5--
G:---4------4----4------4----4------4----4------4--
D:---2------2----x------x----x------2----x------x--
A:-4-4----0-0--2-2------2----2----0-0--2-2------2--
E:--------------------0-0--4-4----------------0-0--
Sorry for all these rookie questions.

Just have faith in our tabbing god, Kanter, and you shall turn out fine
But actually, first, JKanter isn't on the frets, hes just behind them, you get better tone placing your fingers there. At first, you probably can't do it or shouldn't try, cause it just becomes natural after you're experienced in playing.
Then, im not quite sure what you're asking about for the "E and A chords" But basicly, for the verse in crash, you just keep those fingers where they are and change the base note. I hope that helped, if not, explain a little.

ps, dont be sorry, we all were noobies at one point

I feel your pain. It took me ages to get that part down. The boys dream part is played only by timmy or butch on the piano, but there is a way to insert it if you are playing the song solo. After singing "in a boys dream" start strumming the e, B, and G strings quickly, but to rhythm of the song, like so: xxx450 with the ring and pinky fingers respectively. Then, just before the upstrum, hammer on the e string second fret (with the index finger), xxx452, then quickly pull off before the next downstrum. Listen to the CD to get the placement of the hammer right.
To transition to the main part of the song again, position your fingers as if you are playing the x02450 part, and continue the hammering the e string 2nd fret with the side of your index finger as you go to x22450, and then 022450. The other strings won't be affected if you touch them with the side of your index finger because they are already fretted. Just keep hammering that e string away and try to transition as smoothly as possible into the main part of the song. "touch your lips just so I know..."
This is very tricky, and takes a lot of practice, but once you get it, it sounds really bitchin.

Davy, thanks for that but it didnt really answer my question. I know that part kind of. What im asking about is what dave plays. its something along thelines of hitting that first x4245x a bunch of times and then going through that verse cycle faster than normal. Its what dave plays. I can see it in storytellers and all the live stuff. I'm pretty sure of it, but hey i could be wrong. Anyone else know any information?

I didn't fully read all the replies, but this should really help. I submitted this to Kanter, maybe he will post it. If it fills up too much space to read (most definitely), copy and paste it to Notepad or Word (Courier New font).

One thing that could be screwing you up is jkanter's tab (sorry jkanter). It shows five x42450s played before the x02450 x22450 022450 part. I listened to crash a couple dozen times and it sounds an awful lot like there is only four x42450s played. It is hard to tell, because the hammers and pulloffs I described earlier tend to fool the ear as to the rhythm. I usually play just four, to the rhythm of the verse, and it goes right with the song when I play with it. Let me know if I missed something.i-am-me wrote:Davy, thanks for that but it didnt really answer my question. I know that part kind of. You're exactly right. Check out the tab I put above....he does that chord four times, and goes into the regular chords of the verse, only in the opposite pattern...Davy28 wrote:One thing that could be screwing you up is jkanter's tab (sorry jkanter).
