You musicians out there...
I have listened and amazed by the works posted on this forum. I was just wondering... Whats your age range? and do you major in music or earning a living off it? If you're this good, whats next?

Re: You musicians out there...
Im 20, and I don't major in music mainly because I cant read notation and I can't play piano. I make a little bit of a living off of music, but I end up spending that money on gear or something, so it's an awful cycle. I've gotten a little better at perfoming and singing in the last year, but I really don't know whats next.Tranman66 wrote:I have listened and amazed by the works posted on this forum. What about you?
I'm 43, I minored in music in college. I haven't posted any recordings here, yet.
I have a small project studio in which I record other peoples music, radio commercials, etc
as well record some of my own stuff and sketches.
I produce and engineer out side of this sometimes as well. I do some solo performances, but mostly these days am hired to sit in with other artists that are in the area requiring, guitar, drums, etc.
Unfortunatly I'm not making a living at it.
My main source of income is engineering and web development,
Jim

I'm 16, and...I might major/minor in some type of music, but I'll have to take some classes soon if I want to do that. I have never played live, as I'm pretty young, but I want to play some solo gigs sometime in a year or so. It won't make me a living. Like Tom said, I would probably use that money or gear anyway.

Im not gonna persue a music career, you know like tour and perform until im 30 and realize its going no where... but i mean if some guy comes up to me and offers me a recording deal, or if its lookin really good, ill stick with it, id love to be the next dave matthews or john mayer or what have you... but im not gonna waste years of my life for somethin not comming.

Yup, same boat. I am almost 17, play guitars 4 hr a day as a hobby and writing music for fun. I love music so much, i hope to make a living out of it, but thats not gonna happen. I'll major in business, which will open up more opportunities. I am growing out of my 350$ guitar, must find a job to get a martin or tak or something. I open the school's guitar club. Pretty cool, too bad there isn't any open mic gig at the school i can do.

A cappella guy here. (I think that's the first time I've ever spelled "a cappella" right.)
Anyway, I'm 21, majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering at UC San Diego, and minoring in Computer Music.
Music Background
Main instruments:
Piano - 16 years
Cello - 11 years
Secondary instruments: (screw around with these - don't really practice on them regularly)
Guitar - 4 years
Harmonica - 4 years
Banjo - 4 years
New instruments: (just purchased and am presently learning)
Violin - 1 month
Flute - 1 week
And then there's my voice (which allows me to do the a cappella). I've been doing that since, oh, last May? I don't know... whenever I registered here.
Alright - stay classy,
Benjamin Pezzner
