guitar cleaning

my guitar has a glossy black finish...which as you might imagine...gets dirty quite often...any tips on cleaning it without possibly ruining it?

Just soak it with the hose... make sure to use turtle wax afterwards.

Go to your local guitar store (Guitar Center, Sam Ash). There are plenty of products to keep your guitar clean and shiny. I use Gibson's pump polish. Every time I change the strings I give them a good rub down.

Jim Dunlop makes a pump cleaner/polisher, it's good stuff and you only need a pump or two. I know a couple of guys who swear by this stuff at the local music shop.

Gibson Vintage Reissue Restoriation Kit is the best to get. Rag, lemon oil for the fret board, finish cream for the guitar, and metal cleaner for metal parts, plus a brus with a scrubber for the hard to reach areas. It works very well, I only use that. Well, I also use that nice fende rag, which works very well too.
