how do u guys go about writing the musical component to your lyrics?

i usually just jam around until i find something i like and then try and structure...but that's before lyrics for me...i can't write lyrics for shit

i plug a mic into my Digitech rp80 and put it on tuner... then i hum the lyrics and write down the chords that the screen displays.. whammo chord progression.. then so on and so forth.
