Recording my First CD
Well i dont think its a secret here anymore, ill be recording a CD soon of originals with a friend, or friends... thats where yall come in.... i cant decide wich way i want to go on this, do i want to have like myself on lead guitar, a friend on backup stuff, a drummer, a bassist, and rock out like no tomorrow, to songs that are a mix between counting crows, and DMB.... or do i want to get me and my friend, me doing lead rythme, him doing backup fills and interludes, all acoustic still, but no band, just me and him... stereo mic my guitar, stereo mic his... either let mine stay center, and let his fade between 75% left and 25% right, over to 25% left, and 75% right..... or let him stay center, and let my part pan around like that... and then a friend to sing, gotta get someone to sing either way...
wich should i do, i honestly dont know, cause like i would love these songs to be done full out in a studio to make the CD and live performance different, but at the same time, these songs were writen for an intimate feel, and i want the live stuff to reflect that, but for those just hearing the CD i want that too....
sooo since yall havent let me down yet... opinionize away!

yeah, i want an acoustic CD too, but its like, what makes D+T sooooo special, would all the magic still be there if there was no DMB, and all of the CD's were d+t... i mean d+t would still be amazing, but is it that its a contrast of DMB, or is it the actual music being played in its inimate original emotional feel.dmbguitar718 wrote:Well, you're going to record each track seperately.
So, you could just do the whole thing by yourself, or your friend could go back and add fills and whatnot.
And I would rather have two acoustic guitars over a full band. It's your stuff though, that part's up to you.
I suggest you go acoustic without the band, mainly because putting in drums will add a couple of days to your recording process(not to mention more $$).
Another really important thing to think about:
how good is your drummer?
and how well do they know the songs?
I never noticed this untill I started recording with a band, but a great drummer can make an OK song sound amazing, and a bad drummer can make a great song sound really really bad.

well that's different. Dave wrote his songs with the band, then toured and played with Tim. You on the other (I'm assuming here) wrote the songs by yourself, with an acoustic guitar with no drums, bass, etc. So having it be acoustic would be its natural feel.filmdude100cms wrote:yeah, i want an acoustic CD too, but its like, what makes D+T sooooo special, would all the magic still be there if there was no DMB, and all of the CD's were d+t... i mean d+t would still be amazing, but is it that its a contrast of DMB, or is it the actual music being played in its inimate original emotional feel.dmbguitar718 wrote:Well, you're going to record each track seperately.

well i mean its the same concept, yes dave wrote the songs FOR the band, and some with, but bassically im assuming dave wrote these songs, and brought them to the guys and said "alright, add your shit" cause i mean somedevil is a bunch of songs dave did that didnt work with the band...dmbguitar718 wrote:well that's different. and yeah, i mean a day of me and daniel jamming will get us ready to record, with a full band, id have to practice a long time, and well, i dont want to do that, and i dont want to waste extra time or money on something that might not work, an entirley acoustic thing might work better.
