1. What does a compressor do?

2. What is a good volume pedal/what should I look for in a volume pedal?

a compressor is a mixture between sustain and tone almost. if the compressor is set at 0 then its just a natural guitar sound, anything above that it gets more "fragmented" almost... kinda... its hard to explain. i keep mine set at 0.

edit: volume knobs are pretty simple, just look for one that is made by a reliable company and has good material in its cables and jacks

Compressor pedals also keep your sound more consistent, so the difference in volume when you play really really quiet and really really loud isn't so drastic.

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.
