I worked on the "F" barre chord last night and couldn't even come close to making it sound right. It seems imposible...but I will keep trying.

I don't know exactly how high it is, but that first fret seems to be the hardest one to work correctly...

This won't help you with barre chords, but it's the best advice I was given when I first started. When you start playing a faster song with a good rhythm, keep that right hand bouning up and down to the beat. The first song I learned this to was "If I had a million dollars". It's super easy and has a quick beat. It helps with chord changes and such. The tab should be easy to find. Hope this helps. I've only been playing 2 and a half years. It just takes time a practice. Leave your guitar laying around and when you're watching tv or doing nothing, strum around on it.

when you are trying to learn barre chords, try learning on the fifth fret....it usually is the most comfortable...higher up on the next and you start to cramp your hand....also, think of barre chords as "bar chords" because you make a bar with your index finger and cover all six strings...get comfortable using just the index finger....one last thing, the biggest mistake i see people make...you dont have to try to press your finger through the fret board....you just want to lay your finger on the guitar, if you really have to press to get a good sound, your action is probably too high...good luck practicing

This "strumming thing" is harder than it looks!

I am having trouble making the up-strokes sound right, and I just can’t seem to get the right rhythm down on Crash. Not to mention my pick tends to get caught in the strings and I drop it now and then.

for barre chords, it might be easier to practice ones with the root on the A string instead of the E string, since you don't have to bar so many strings at once. also, try fretting just the root note with your index finger until you get the hang of it... so for B minor try playing x2443x for a while. then you get used to having your hand in that position, and just have to press your index finger down more to get the full x24432. i've been playing for a couple years, and i still sometimes just play F like 1332xx . probably not a good habit, but then my action is really high.
