Original Song from DMB Tribute Band 2Step

Unread post by 2Stepleadguitarist » Sun Oct 24, 2004 10:05 pm

Hey guys, this is just a tune I wrote for my girlfriend's birthday last year. My brother more or less just "said" the vocals in a hurry as opposed to singing. I haven't had the band learn it so the violin, sax, keyboard, and rhythm guitar parts are all done on guitar, so it sounds unplugged, when in reality I write the majority of the parts for each original, and teach them to everybody later, and then we work from there. Like I said, I don't like the vocals, but try and focus on the lyrics and music for your criticism as this may or may not be on our debut album. Thanks.

over all i liked it, its very well done, but..

could you post the lyrics? the music kind of covered the guys voice up. His voice is really good though, from what i hear of it.

i think thats an electric guitar in there, it kind of gets overwhelming after a while, maybe turn it down a bit.

Song Lyrics

Unread post by 2Stepleadguitarist » Sun Oct 24, 2004 10:31 pm

Everything.

VERSE1:

Pale lit screen
glowing in this dark room
Soft images form the Scene
Outside world, it tapers from the edges
you appear from nowhere
but you've always been there
On and Away and there and here and finally here
It's time to make things stranger and
stop being strangers with fate and the angels

PRECHORUS:

I'm only breathing of the air
but nothing is there
and then I see you and it's ok ok
I see the world everywhere
but nothing is there
until I see you hear Now I'm alive

CHORUS:

For 21 years existing's only been
a prelude to knowing you
Now there's color everywhere
and I can feel it's real
You lay there smiling beautiful
making the world real
Did you ever know you are the
missing piece of my

Everything
Everything

VERSE2:

Of course there's answers
So we fight to understand
the wonder of each other
It's so damn good
I recockgnize that compromise
can't compromise a wonderous thing
kinda kills the surprise and

PRECHORUS:

I'm only dreaming of a fairytale
nothing is there
and then you hold me and it's ok ok
They say they're angels everywhere
but nothing is there until you kiss me
then you all appear
Your eyes are innocent and perfect
I shed all my fear
Then you look at me and it's ok ok
I swear I'm breathing of the air
but nothing is there
then you tell me it's ok ok

Bridge:

It's ok
It's ok
OK
It's ok

CHORUS:

For 18 years you've only known
your heart was searching all
the love that wasn't there
I'm giving mine to you
Standing there, not believing
that you're standing here with me
Did you ever know you were the
missing piece of my

Everything
Everything

Everything
Everything...

I liked the song. But my problem with it is that it never got "catchy" Like there wasn't anything to remember once I turned off the track. That doesn't necessarily make it a bad song, or even one that you shouldn't put on your album, cause it's a great song in my opinion. It will just never be a best song on the album or anything as far as pop culture goes.

With that said, I thought the vocals your brother did were really good. They fit the mood of the song. Quiet and kind of wisper like. That's the kind of stuff I like though. I like all the different pieces with it, and I'm interested in what it will sound like full band. So keep us posted. Good job.

Thanks App. Always something positive to say. I appreciate it. I'm tempted to let you have the link to our live video of #41, it would stream instantly but would ultimately take about 300 MB of bandwidth. If I let you see it would you keep the link to yourself, and let me know what you think of my band??

Musically and lyrically it's a pretty strong song. It's hard to get an accurate perception of how much the song will stay with you when the vocals are said like you pointed out. Although from what I can imagine it's a pretty solid song overall. At five and a half minutes it's kinda long winded. I think you can and should make it more concise.

I'd love to see it. And I would respect your wishes to keep it to myself. Also, I wanted to tell you, as you may have read, I'm from NC too. If you're about to come out w/ a cd and want it reviewed, my brother runs a music news website from Charlotte and they do hundreds of reveiws a month. The website is http://www.silentuproar.com. So if you're interested, let them know and maybe they'll review it for you. Anyway, PM me or IM me sometime and we'll figure out the stream thing.
