you can just get a converter and plug your guitar into the back of you're cpu. thats what i do. very simple.

it was like 2 bucks its just a thing that goes from 1/4 inch input (guitar cable) to 1/8 inch output (headphone and input in back of you're cpu size). its not an "incredible" recording setup but it works. then just download audacity for free and you're on your way!
