It's (it was) popular. Therefore pop. A tune with a 2 beat feel from the 20's is still pop, even though it's not popular now.

i dont like the notion of that. its kind of like in literature there was the modern genre in the 1920s and such, now it is still called modern today. and things being written now are known as post modern. that doesnt make any sense, and neither does calling music from the 20s popular music

So a top 40 hit from the 20s is different then a top 40 hit today? it's still pop. = popular. consisting of a verse, chorus and bridge, and maybe a prechorus. they all have it.

but popular is a term that doesnt last forever. something can be popular one day, and the next day it isnt popular. under your logic something that was popular culture during the 1500's would still be considered popular culture

pop music takes on a form. it has a certain structure. which the pieces i am talking about contain. that is the definition of pop, therefore, it's pop. pop has a very strong melodic focus, which all of those songs do. it has a chorus, verse, bridge and maybe a prechorus. which those songs do.

ok. i had no idea that in order to be pop music a certain structure had to be followed.

well thats if you want to get technical. those are just elements of pop. and someone said only pop is on that show. well obviously. only radio pop/love/sing/catchy pop is on that show.

They all share elements. Being the self proclaimed great jazz musician you are, I think you'd even know that.

no, I just took your post as saying that pop songs ONLY have this and it is ONLY these things that make it a pop song.

when the hell did I proclaim myself as a "great jazz muzician"?

Something is is popular one time, isnt popular forever.
