Yes...they are being muted. Second, we arent talking about how you play, we are talking about the way Dave plays. Its a quick mute on an upstroke. This isnt that difficult to figure out.

The mute is on a downstroke I think. Tap your foot to the rhythm and you will hear the mute on a downstroke. This seems pointless to some people but I bet that most people can't do this----it's a VERY quick mute in between chords.

it leads onto the count of 2. So if you wanted to be all correct about it, its on the "ah" of 1.
