Angelfire

Unread post by m98ter » Sat May 24, 2003 6:01 pm

Is posting mp3's on angelfire not against one of their policies (something to do with a "remote location" i think)? It seems like I read somewhere on that site that they didnt allow you to post them unless you were a paying member. I'm just asking, because I put a few up last night and I'd like to do as many more as I can, but I dont want to waste the time if my site's going to get closed as soon as they find out (cause with dial up it takes forever to upload them). Thanks.

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": The food court is downstairs. The cookie stand is upstairs. It's not like we're talking quantum physics here.

Against who's policy, angelfires? Are they covers or originals, what policy do you think your exactly breaking specifically?

I went back and found the policy that I remember reading, and now I definitely think I'm in the clear after reading it a little closer. And everything is original by the way, I can't cover other people for the life of me.

"Remote loading, or stealing bandwidth, occurs when files are stored on one server for access on another server. Storing image files on a Tripod or Angelfire page for use on a non-Lycos page is an example of remote loading. Lycos does not allow the embedding of MIDIs, WAVs, MPEGs, and similar files from such remote sources as e-mail and external auction sites with a Basic membership."

Yeah, but the thing is, if you make a index.html with the links to them, then is that not within the angelfire network? It'd serve as a redirecting page through angelfire. Plus, even if you don't, I used to store MP3s on there for a long time, and never got booted off.

If you are just using a page for songs, then create an account at http://www.iuma.com it take about a week to set up, but it is much worth it, because there is virtually no limit on bandwidth and you can have thirty songs.

Thanks for the advice on IUMA...that place is awesome..about one billion times cooler than angelfire. I actually feel wanted there. What are the odds that you'll get turned down?

I doubt you will. I have a couple originals and many DMB covers on there, and they let me right in.

Or if you are in college, you should have free webspace available through the University, I just figured that out a month ago or so from some people on here and am yet to do anything about it. But Ill get around to it sooner or later.

Wow that place really does look cool. My only question is how do they make money if they are giving us all that free stuff? One can never be too sure.... :o anyone know?

I was kind of wondering that same question myself. All I can really figure is through their advertising.

We do get webspace, but only 5 mb...and that pretty much rules that out for putting music up.
