Bought a Martin today... now did I get gipped??

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Maybe. IMO, even though I do like Martins, I think you may have been ripped off. That is if my memory serves me correctly and that guitar isnt solid wood throughout. I dunno, maybe I'm wrong.

Well, seeing how the list price of the guitar is $949.00 and they usually sell guitars at around 60-65% (maybe a little higher in some cases) and the strings and polish could have only cost $25. So without the case it should have costed around $600-640. How much did the case run you, $100-150, I dont know how much cases cost but you probably got ripped (not real bad) but it still sounds kinda pricey.

yeah the case was somewhere in the 100s

but yeah I think I wasn't ripped off too bad, maybe somewhere in the 20-30 dollar range. Oh well I guess, you have to go into those guitar stores knowing they wanna fuck you over. Thanks again ya'll

Well hey, if you are happy with the guitar, thats all that matters, right? :D

By the way how does it play? Do you like it alot? I'm looking to eventually get a new guitar, so I might as well ask around!

I played one at guitar center and it sounded pretty darn good for a HPL (High-Pressure Laminated). $750 is not too bad. You might have been able to talk them down a bit but not by much. Here are the specs at Martins website

Funny you say that ricky, after reading this thread, I too went to guitar center (not for this reason). This guitar was one of the many martins/taylors I played, and it sounded decent for being "composite". It was on sale for $600 I believe.

ditto.

I do like the natural look on the Martins better than the...stranger lookign ones. like the metal top one...thats bogus.

i'm actually really impressed with the composite wood martins. i played one that was sprucewood top and composite backing, and it sounded excellent.
