I have developed a strong passion for playing acoustic. Lately I've been debating whether or not to purchase an electric for a different sound. I currently play an acous./elec. through an AcoustasonicII.

Should I venture into the electric world? (i.e does it posses a novelty worth the extra dough and time)

Will I need to purchase a new amp? (I do not have a distortion or overdrive setting on my acoustasonic so would a distortion box be sufficient?)

Who makes a great sounding left handed model under 6 bills.
Thanks for any input!

Thanks Andy! I've been lurking 'round the boards and tabs etc... for about a year now...finally decided to start posting a bit. That's the input I needed as far as you having but not playing an electric alot. I'm trying to see if that's the general consensus since at this point I wouldn't put my acoustic 2nd to anything. I just enjoy the natural(and amped for performance) sound.
Q. Is your distain for Fender one with quality issues or the trend of owning a Fender? Just curious.

well... this is a story... but the short of it is that i feel Fender makes an average product for a high price, i believe they're generic looking, and they sound flat (especially foriegn built ones) basically i would never buy a fender because there are much better guitars for the same or less price. maybe "suck" is the wrong word, but around here you have to be opinionated

no problem james!

I love electrics, as much as acoustics. I say get an electric. Also, yes you will need a different amp. It will sound like crap through the acoustic one. Also, for guitars under 600, try a Dean. I've played one before, wasn't bad for the price.
Yes, I am in a box

guitars under 600 you could go for a decent epiphone les paul. but if you really enjoy playing acoustic, i dont know if id put down the dough for an electric. i did and have regretted it ever since, considering i never play it. maybe you could rent one for a while and see howyou like it and then decide whether or not you want to purchase one.

Cool, I'm currently playing a dean exotica FM l/h acous. and I love it. Dean makes a great product for a decent price. Thanks.

i'd just use the money to upgrade to a better acoustic. but it all depends on what you want.
if you're fairly new ( a few years or so) at guitar, you might want to develope a really good acoustic backround
if you're pretty good at acoustic and you want a whole other experience, get the electric. but remebmer the electric wont play differently than the acoustic unless you have a good amp, and perhaps an effects pedal
depends on what kind of music you want to play to
good luck

Get an electric. I love both acoustic and electric. I'll jam out on my own stuff or DMB stuff on acoustic, then I'll pick up my electric and play some Metallica or some blues stuff.
One thing you may find down the road, if you meet and play with some more musicians, is that being an exclusive acoustic player limits you. I mean, being able to jam out on acoustic rhythm is great, but it's nice to be able to do a decent job on rhythm and leads on electric as well. For me, I need to stay on top of both just to keep from getting bored with either.

Not by any means trying to shoot this down but, I had a friend over last night with an electric and the acoustasonic, according to him (been playing electric for 8 yrs now), sounds better than an electric-specific amp that cost him 400... It gives it a lighter sound, yeah... but imho it's a more chill sound with much room to get all Reynolds on it and shtuff
