Vote For Change 10.1/10.2

Unread post by DMBartender » Sun Oct 03, 2004 1:26 pm

Just wondering how the first two shows were? Did Dave talk of his political views at all, or was he just encouraging people to vote, or nothing at all? Also, with a few other acts, how long did they play for?

The Vote for Change tour is, as I'm sure you can glean from the title, very partisan - it's not like the MTV thing trying to get people to vote, it's trying to get people to vote out Bush.

I know what the tour is all about. After I started this thread, I read the front page of antsmarching.org, which said that dave was not political on 10.1, but instead just encouraged people to vote. I know where Dave (and the other vote for change acts) stand, but I wasn't sure how active they would be during the shows.

Dave wasn't very political at all. Mostly just encouraging to vote..

He said one thing

"I think you all know who I'm going to vote for..."

That got a lot of cheers, and boos.

He wasn't too preachy, which was cool. He tried to stay very not-pro Kerry, by just trying to get everyone to vote. Jacket and Jurassic 5 both played for about a half hour, and Ben Harper for an hour. DMB played a full set, and it was great. They took the stage at about 8:35 and left somewhere about 11 (after encore).

Yes, all Pro-Bush people would pass on seeing a Harper and DMB show  , there was definitely a few "4 more years" shirts around. Overall, if I knew nothing going in, I wouldn't have known it was a political thing.

Yah, I was there. Dave did do the whole "I"m sure you know who I'm voting for." thing and a lot of people got loud. Some cheers and a lot of boo's. Other than that, he just pushed the whole voting thing. It was real hard to hear what exactly he said with the whole crowds reaction about the above statement. Jurassic 5 was the big political talkers, though I wasn't there for My Morning Jacket.

The Dave show was tight, though. He played LIOG with one of the best Boyd solos I've ever seen/heard. Eat it up bitches! Ben played all his good shit, all of it, so there was no disapointment there. Ben, I don't think, said anything political, unless there was something on his shirt at the end when he took off his button up collared. He sang some pretty influential songs, though. Seemed to be the thing of the night.

Wierd thing was that Dave played all his new songs in a 4 block row, which kind of dragged on for the crowd b/c most didn't know it. Hello Again got a big feedback, though. One of the better Dave concets I've been to.

thanks for the feedback, boys. I was just wondering what to expect this Tuesday in Madison. I'll be sure to let you all know what I think/heard.

That's kinda surprising to me. He's certainly the one with the most socially conscious personality and lyrics, and he's been vocal in the past.

He's one of my idols.

It's all about the music, right? Ben's songs all have an understanded meaning in them so I'm sure he got his point across to those who cared. Kerry or Bush, that's my own opinion. All I'm saying is of course the performers are going to say "something" about the tour and the candidate they are promoting, but either way it's all about the music.

Ben talked politics at Austin City Limits. I'm surprised he didn't at an inherently political event.
