E-mail Problem
Me and Billy both got blank e-mails form each other with the subject "Let's Be Friends" I dont know if we have viruses or something but I thought maybe some how this site was responsible because I dont think we've ever e-mailed each other so I dont know why this would happen. If anyone knows what this could possibly have come from please fill us in. Thanks.

Does it contain attachments ? If so then watch out ....jsgksu wrote:Me and Billy both got blank e-mails form each other with the subject "Let's Be Friends" I dont know if we have viruses or something but I thought maybe some how this site was responsible because I dont think we've ever e-mailed each other so I dont know why this would happen. I know you said yours didn't have attachments, probably just a mistake on the virus's part. It looks like some mutation of the virus is using an email harvester and using the email address from this memberlist, I've been getting them a lot too.

McAfee is not recommended ....TrippnBill686 wrote:Do you have Norton AV/McAfee AV/AVG with updated def files?jsgksu wrote:So does that mean I have a virus, should I be worried?
And unless it had attachments , you probably have no reason to worry Jayme , but to be on the safe side you should get one of the listed AntiViruses

Hmm i've never heard anything about McAfee failing tests, in fact most sysops and IT guys prefer it because it's got better heuristics, but I personally prefer Norton. You can get AVG for free at http://www.grisoft.com/.
Here's the deal with the e-mails. What they have is programs embedded into them using the IFRAME feature. This allows the program to be run through the e-mail without really being spotted by an anti-virus program. I get the same e-mails you all get. To tell you the truth, I believe that the virus programs now check for this type of program so I don't think you guys have to worry...but read up on them.
Secondly, as to why you both recieved them. People have programs that go through message boards and extract e-mail addresses from the boards. These are spiders of sorts. They run through the internet gather as many e-mails as they can....those e-mails are then all targeted. Every page that you post on has your e-mail in the source code of the page. This is becuase the e-mail icon sits there and points directly to your e-mail address.
There are 2 ways to solve this problem. One would be for me to take the e-mail link out of the code. I don't think that you all would like this. The other option would be to allow people to send e-mail THROUGH the message board so they do not get your actual e-mail address.
I just went ahead and implemented this feature. As of now, you are unable to find out someone's e-mail address just from clicking e-mail. If you want to send them an e-mail...you must be logged in and send it through the message board. It will put the sender's e-mail as the reply address so that when you reply it goes to them. Enjoy all
