One more question actually. Would it be a bad idea to learn on a fretless?

Nope, it will just take alot more time to get the intonation down in your head. If you don't get it juuuust right it won't be intonated properly, which just sounds like your playing out of tune. i've noticed that if i haven't played fretless in a month, my once-good-ear has gone to crap and i need to constantly play or i lose the feel for it.

i don't use it for complicated stuff, maybe one song in my band, because my ear isn't that well developed.

Hmmm...sounds hard to learn but the prices on those Brice basses are rediculous.

oh and mike you're a bastard.
For not knowing about a fretless bass or just because?

I know I'm a bastard just because but come on I don't play bass. :D

Which reminds me. I record solo fingerstlye guitar almost exclusively and I would really like to learn some bass to enrich the recordings. Any suggestions?
Would an acoustic bass be stupid for that purpose?
my buddy is a big bassist and he told me that the general rule is acoustic basses suck. He plays mostly slap and pop though, not best on an acoustic. Have you tried just getting one of dem der jaunts what make ur gitar an octave lower, its average sound quality but much more cost efficient.

Oh, so it's a slim hollow body. But, why are the controls on the soundboard? Wouldn't that hurt the sound?
