#41 question

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

#41 question

Unread post by kcw » Wed Sep 22, 2004 9:40 pm

So I've been wanting to learn #41 for a while now. So yesterday I spent and hour and today I spent two hours tabbing it out by ear. I checked it on this site since most of the time these tabs are almost completely accurate. My chorus is similar yet very different from what is on this site. I played the one on this site and it doesnt sound quite right solo though it might with full band. Anyway tell me if this chorus sounds fine or not:

E---------------0-----------------------------------
B---------------3-----------------------------------
G-----------4--0--4--------------------------------
D-----------5--4--5--------------------------------
A-----------x--5--3--------------------------------
E-----------3------0--------------------------------

the second chord can be replaced with 2x02xx

Um... not that off, but not that close, stick to the site, it's exactly what Dave plays.

I know that its exactly what Dave plays. Kanter looks at videos and stuff. But when I play some of the songs solo acoustic its missing sound without the rest of the band.

The first chord on there is almost identical to the one on this site. The second isnt but its close. The third is almost exactly the same as on this board just moved down the fret board. I have one note off on the third chord from what this site says.

Yea, I don't like the Dave chords. I use the open G, D, C chords.

well it sounds pretty good to me and i think, giving a solo version can use some extra notes. but it is different than what dave plays. but i also understand what your saying as well *stoned*.

The stretch in the intro isnt bad at all. Though again its not exactly what Dave plays but its pretty close:
Intro:
E--------------------------------------------------------
B----------------------------3--3--------3--------------
G----------5---------7--8---0--0h4p0--x--------------
D-------2------------0--9---4--x--------0h4p0--------
A-----3-----------5-----7---5--5--------5-------------
E---5----------7--------0------------------------------

You could always do this:

x0xxxx
x02033
x2xxxx
x20233
xx2xxx
xx2033
xx0xxx
xx0233

x-does not mean mute, it means do not play these strings

Pretty common in a lot of his stuff as well as a lot of his musical influences, the old walking base line.

i posted this the other day, but it's still good stuff, i like using it as an outro, but it works for the intro too

Code: Select all

----0-----2-----0-----------------
----1-----3-----3--3--3----3------
----0-----2-----0--0--0h4--0------
----2-----4-----2--4--4----0h4----
-0--0--2--2-----2--5--5----5------
-------------0--0-----------------

or this d...

--0---------------
--3---------------
--2---------------
--0---------------
------------------
------------------
then here's some good stuff for the chorus...

Code: Select all

--3--2--0-----
--3--3--0-----
--0--2--0-----
--0--0--2-----
--2--x--3-----
--3--2--------

did you not read my first post on this thread at all. I said I did figure it out on my own. Then I checked it with the tab on this site and I wanted to know if it sounded right to everyone else cause it sounds right to me but its different than whats on this site.

Tabbing it by ear and then asking for feedback on if its right or not isnt bad. At least I did it by ear unlike a lot of other people who are completely capable in doing it in less time than I did.

I actualy don't like that sound. I really prefer the way Dave does it. I do not find anything wrong with your way, just not my type of mustard :) .
