i was just wondering. i learned to play guitar on an ovation that i borrowed from someone. i liked it, it does sound good plugged in. then i bought one a couple of years ago cause it was cheap and i wanted something to plug in. anyway just seeing what people though. they definitely dont sound as good as other guitars.

Of course now i play my martin. :D

The ovations i have played have the rounded body. I dont know if all ovations have that but I'm not a big fan of those. They do sound really good plugged in but not so much not plugged in.

they all have a rounded body. the plastic stuff they use on the back was used inside of helicopters or somethin like that.

the only ovation ive played that i liked was an elite 12 string. the 12's sound much better than the 6's when it comes to ovation

well its a different sound with 12's in other brands, not all people prefer it. But i was at samash and i played the ovation 12 string, going for like 1200 and a taylor 12 string going for like 1600 side by side and i thought the ovation was better...
( :x braces for impact :x ) compare an ovation 6 and a taylor 6 and its not even a comparisson, taylor blows em out of the water.

they were very similar, but the ovation had a smooher and more even sound to it. Plus it was easier to play what with the bowl back

Offstage, Ovations are crap. Onstage, they are gems.

I had one for a year, a super shallow, I loved it until I bought my Taylor. Since then I had to sell it because it pissed me off. Kinda sounds like when you're trying to talk with your mouth closed.

It depends on the guitar. The cheap Ovations sound terrible unplugged, and have HORRIBLE pickups. And I will garuntee the finish on the top will crack within the first year.

The pricier Ovations sound fantastic when plugged in with a live band. But, if you have the money to spend, there are better guitars you could get.

Great tone in my opinion and easy to play, however the major drawback is that you can't play an Ovation on your lap because of the rounded back. You have to stand and use a strap.
