My Original Music: last update for a while.

Unread post by ticohans » Sat May 17, 2003 10:21 pm

Hey guys, so I had taken down my webpage for a while, but I just put it back up, and this latest update is going to be up for the summer summer. On it, I put a new and much better version of Dumpty, complete with improved second guitar track. Also posted are some newer and older tunes. Unless you've been around for a long time, there's probably some stuff up that you haven't heard yet. So check it out and let me know what you think! Thanks in advance, guys.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Dumpty is just a rediculously good song. I actually like the previous version better though. I think this newer version is cleaner but it lacks punch and feels a bit dry. I liked the second guitar but it got a bit distracting at times. The harmonics were a nice touch but they were too loud in the mix. My advice, which is based solely on opinion, would be to leave out the fills and just do a lead break.
The vocals were awesome as always but they seemed to be "under" the guitar. I did like the falsetto on this one I think it add's great melodic interest. Sorry for the scrutiny but it's only because I LOVE this song!

Im still a huge fan of all of them Hans , each one of them is a little masterpiece of creativity :)

Would like to hear some of them performed on a piano

I like the extra guitar track on Dumpty , but i duno which would be my favorite between that and the old recording , i like them both :)

And when are ya gonna tab the stuff out so we can jam along to these nice tunes

The first version of Dumpty definitely has much more punch as that was done in a studio with a nice Neumann mic, but I had a friend who was new in the studio doing the mixing stuff, and I just really hate listening to how bad it came out. So this new version was done on my computer with a much poorer mic, though still a pretty decent one.

In terms of the falsetto, that's how I usually do the song, but that day in the studio my voice was totally shot, and that's at the low end of my falsetto, which is what I loose first when my voice is having a rough time.

Dave, hopefully I'll get some piano recordings next school semester. Both One More Night and Call Me Love- especially One More Night- I really love to do on the piano.

Thanks for the compliments and criticisms. I really appreciate the scrutiny and careful listening. It helps me to be aware of the improvements I need to make that I don't hear at first on my own.

This is what really makes me want to get out my guitar and work on writing my own stuff. I'm not much for advice but i do think the songs sound really good, i really like your voice. Awesome job and keep it up, i'm looking forward to hearing more in the future. Peace.

I just realized that alot of your stuff reminds of Jars of Clay- that's sweet, man. Some good listening there.

Maybe because they use the same tuning :) That makes it sound very simular but yet so different , as Jars Of Clay don't have those neat hammer-ons / pull-offs , as Hans throws in there

Alternate tunings are always cool to try :)
