Re: cruah all over
I'm sure you're a good musician, but tabs are a resource. It doesn't matter how "boring" you might think it is, you should tab what the original artist plays and anything beyond that should be clearly noted. Tab isn't about being creative, its about transcribing the friggin song.2Stepleadguitarist wrote:No, it isn't a requisite phrase in the music. But to play a lot of DMB's music you must have a 5 string bass, so when I charted this I thought that walking it an octave down would give the song more dynamics.
In reality the bassline for crush is little more than a handful of powerchord arpeggios. to me it's fun but bland in light of that. So I added my own spice, exactly like the correct lick, but on the low B string. It is possible to get board with Steffan's chops, but I try to stay in his boundaries if I am going to wander aroung on the neck. Also, it is the age of acoustic music and a low B string coming together often in songs. I think it's a tasty sound ie. Two Step. The Low End makes the song.
So I'm assuming by your name you're a guitar player, right??

IT'S NOT ABOUT CREATIVITY
I have been playing progressive leag guitar for 9 years, but I played what I like to call lead bass for several years before that. Like the message says, it's the correct phrase, one octave down. Fonz abuses the pentatonic box like no other. That tab is very much correct depending on the strings you want to play the notes on for the right tone. And I say lead bass because I have a 7 fret stretch on a bass and will sacrifice boxing up my chops for a better quality of tone or sustainment. Even fonz has done this lick before. He wouldn't be a bassist if it didn't just happen out of instinct at least once. It just depends on which bass he plays. The modulus 5 string or the warwick or the modulus four string.
In the end, it's not wrong because I tabbed that part in. It's just a different interpretation of the song. looking at all the tabs I have. I like to think it's one of the better interpretations, but then again I play like a guitarist on the bass, so I tab like a guitarist. I'd say that it's no harm done, but just another cherritable contribution to a community of fans that is saturated with terrible charts which are both lazy and clearly the work of begginer to mid-level players. A simple solution is to not play the lick. And, I generally do notate deviations from the original tune, but nobody is perfect.

I agree with this and with streeth fish, but i haven't even seen the crush tab, but, i like what you're doing, and i agree with that, to change it up, but i don't think you should call the tabs "verbatum"2Stepleadguitarist wrote:I have been playing progressive leag guitar for 9 years, but I played what I like to call lead bass for several years before that. verbatum would be the way stefan plays it.i like tictacs wrote:I agree with this and with streeth fish, but i haven't even seen the crush tab, but, i like what you're doing, and i agree with that, to change it up, but i don't think you should call the tabs "verbatum"2Stepleadguitarist wrote:I have been playing progressive leag guitar for 9 years, but I played what I like to call lead bass for several years before that. As a matter of fact I was an English major in college, and a published poet. "Verbatim" is the correct spelling of the word. So if you are going to be a smart A$$ then make sure you didn't fail English in highschool. As for the tabs, I didn't post them so I could be schooled in spelling, incorrectly I might add, and I didn't post them to be bashed because they have more to them than a duplication of the album. They are a duplication of the album AND the style. Like I said, if they rub you the wrong way then buy fonz's books, as transcribed by somebody other than him and never 100% accurate as I have realized.

I don't use his books, because it is obvious that your tabs are NOT what Stefan plays. I didn't denounce you at all...don't get so god damn riled. All I had said so far were positive comments, and that you shouldn't call them "verbatim" (please go fuck yourself) and it was cool that you were putting your own twist on them, because I don't believe anything should be directly copied 100% when you are covering.2Stepleadguitarist wrote:As a matter of fact I was an English major in college, and a published poet. Edit: I too, was a published poet. I don't go around flaunting it or anything. It doesn't matter.

Tictacs, I think we should bury the hatchet on this whole tab issue. These forums were made for musicians to better themselves and share ideas, and you did compliment me for which I thank you.i like tictacs wrote:I don't use his books, because it is obvious that your tabs are NOT what Stefan plays. In reality nothing but Steffan's own chops are verbatim, and yet they still change. I'm just gonna take it with a grain of salt, as I'm sure our posts will cross time and again, and I value constructive criticism. So I appologize that I posted a chart that I added my own lick to after I titled the charts as verbatim. They're just tabs, and if they help any of the two hundred people that have looked at them so far then I fulfilled my goal.

it just seems way cocky to me. if it was more like "i took a lot of time to tab these out and I really think these are as close as I can get. Let me know what you think" instead of the whole boasting about your band and acting like everythings perfect and your superior to everybody.
its good that your trying to help...but its always good to leave egos in the background.

Victor Wooten IS a God, case closed.

I don't catch your meaning about having a bad taste about the dmbtabs bassists. I also didn't mean to boast. I wasn't lying when I said we were the second widest touring tribute on the east coast, and I only said that for people to take a serious interest in the charts and to trust their accuracy.GSRLessard14 wrote:agreed.Xiablo wrote:it just seems way cocky to me. if it was more like "i took a lot of time to tab these out and I really think these are as close as I can get. I'm not even a bassist, I just happen to know how to play bass by ear. I also used acid pro tools to dissect the songs into small complicated parts and loop them in as small as one second intervals to catch even the most unnecessary 32nd note harmonic, or whatever. Besides that I asked you guys if you wanted me to post them before I made the links, and you asked for the charts. I only hope they make their way to olga, and tabcrawler, and all over the net through bassists who think they are good charts, and appreciate them. I also made 24 printable webpages instead of posting them where they would word wrap all out of whack.
I didn't do that for how fun, or time consuming it is.
