Best DMB songs for beginners?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Best DMB songs for beginners?

Unread post by JaDaRu » Thu May 15, 2003 12:10 pm

I'm finally ready to focus on one DMB song at a time. Any suggestions for relatively easy DMB songs to start off with?

Thanks in advance

Jason

How come no one ever says Spoon as an easy song for beginners? Just simple chords and strumming, no hard riffs, timing or muting.

I learned Spoon and thought I was Dave Matthews for a few days.

Yeah, good call....also, i think Typical Situation is another easy one. And if the chorus is a little to complex for ya with the hammer ons, then just play basic chords: G-G(1st fretted bass note)-Am-C
My "gitter" was my best investment

Songs in progression easiest to hardest that I can play: proudest monkey, typical situation, LIOG, lover lay down, satelite, crash (rhythm is hard to get exact), #40, granny, one sweet world w/intro, the stone, what would you say.

There are more, but these I would concentrate on. I think that crash is the best to learn for a beginner. It gives dexterity and rhythm practice.
Its cold as hell outside
But our fire is bright
And in your eyes
I can see what is on my mind
You got me wild
Turned around inside

If you can learn a song like grey street than you will be able to play parts of songs like LIOG and Tripping Billies. Simple dave chords.

i would say try alittle of everything and learn the recognizeable parts taht you can do and everyone will think you are totally awesome. thats what i did before i ever learned a whole song. everything they said above is good. if you wanna be really awesome, start w/ the stone......definitely dave's easiest. 8)

LIOG is pretty easy. I learned it before I could use a pick...I was fingerpickin' and felt really cool. but it didn't sound much like dave... 8)

yeah, liog was my first, too.
learn Pay for what you get. very easy, very repetetive. i dont know where you are with your skills, but if youre beginning, its good for learning sort of quick actions around the fret board. well.. sort of.
also, i know when i began i was always frusterated with only using one area of the fretboard. learn jimi thing, youre all over the place.

I disagree...the song isnt extremely tricky, but for a beginner? I'm a firm believer in learning things the hard way (usually the correct way) first, because it'll make you a lot better in the long run. Just start off with crash or liog and you'll be on your way.

my friends 2nd song was fade to black by metallica (first was song of joy) - he worked on it for 3 months and thats ALL he worked on - there is no reason you should learn the hard stuff before you learn the basics. start with crash. itll be your best bet.

Granny was the first song I learned. Seems pretty easy considering I'm a beginner.
