Unread post by seth_southerland » Tue Sep 21, 2004 10:35 pm

this is xmas i'm gonna get an ibanez ael20tbs, so i'm going to need to get an amp to use with it, however i dont know crap about amps and just yesterday was the first time i've ever touched one

at least i'll know what i need it for though, i won't need a big and powerful one cuz i'll be playing in my house for now, my price range is under $300, and i know from seeing the estaban infomercials that i want one with the overdrive function on it

please please please can i have some suggestions?[/img]

I always say:

Fender = clean and warm
Marshall = harsh and power

Yeah, I read through the post too quickly. I've talked with seth about it since, though.

WORD.

Spend the extra bucks to get the 50 watt amp. I have this one and I can't say enough about it...I love it. (Thanks to Ricky the Pilot for convincing me on this purchase)

Wow, estebans are just beyond laughable......but that is besides the point.

OK, for an electric, if you could scrounge up about another 50 or 75 $ get a Fender Blues Junior. GET IT. I got mine for $350 new. It is the loudest 15 watt amp ever with the sweet tubey goodness.
Otherwise, low end laneys are good (HCM series). Mine has a nice crunchy overdrive and for clean, well its a solidslate.
Don't get a crate, there is a reason why 99% of thier new stuff has onboard effects. I would stay away from most solidslate fenders, and stay away from the newer solidslate Marshalls.

For acoustics, I don't really know much about. I had a Roland and sold it, only because I never used it. It was really nice though and worth the purchase if you need one. But most acoustic amplifiers dont have an overdrive.
