If he has been playing for 11 years and doesnt know how to read standard notation or write stuff out by ear then he probably doesnt have the same motivations that I do. Im going to be a proffessional guitarist. Not nessecarily famous but music will be my career. So learning that stuff is almost imparitive. Though for him he might do it only for self enjoyment and not want to or feel the need to go any farther than where he is now.
I never said I can't write stuff out by ear. I'm just lazy and if theres a tab for it already (that sounds right) why not use it. I do have respect for people who bother to learn standard notation but I just never saw the point in it when tabs work just fine. I took lessons for about a year and my teacher tried to teach me standard notation but I never bothered to practive for the previously mentionned reason. I just ended up jamming with my teacher while my parents payed for lessons

. I do agree that your attitude needs a little adjusting though. I'm not intending to insult you but in my experience when someone asks for help the best thing to do is help them and not use it as an open invitation to gloat about your own skills. Once again I appolise if any of this offends you but hey, thats how I feel.

well mr.im to cool for tabs. Im guessing when you first got your guitar you knew how to just play right. Tabs are good for instance I cant hear each note in a song so i get tabs to improve my hearing for the songs and to learn to play. DIAF

Let's not rail him because he got a little cocky. I think what he was trying to say in a not-so-friendly way is that not using tabs helps to train the ears and that's true.
