WTF who are you to say tabs are for cheaters. If you want to learn std. notation than all the power to you, but WHY do it when tabs are a simple and very effective way of learning or writing songs. I've been playing for 11 years and I still don't know squat about standard notaion, however, I am in no way a poor guiarist and I know my chord progression through tabs and on-line teachings. I think calling people out because they don't know that stuff is just outright rude. I'm not going to tell you to DIAF or anything, but please keep insulting comments to yourself. I've been to other boards and dmbtabs is by far the friendliest and I think we all need to do our part to keep it that way. If someone needs help don't brag about yourself, HELP THEM.
Wow. Thats a long message. I hope you all agree with me, and I appolgise for anything in the message that offends anyone, it is not intented.

P.S. http://www.stanford.edu/~reedg/guitartab.html is by far the best J.J. tab site at the moment. You should find the songs there.

Plus when you've been playing for years and years and you consider yourself a good guitarist you should at least promote yourself to standard notation cause tabs make you look amateur. Now I have no idea how long you guys have been playing so dont think im judging you on anything.

i had seen the exact sort of "tabs are for pu$$ies" comment on another tab board not too long ago and just had to reply. i wanted to post what i wrote that day, because I think it's just as fitting for what was said here:

Well, some of us are reletively new to the guitar, as well as tabbing, and don't quite have the ear for it yet. I don't see anything wrong with letting someone with experience spending 10 minutes or so on something that might take a noob weeks of wasted time when he doesn't know what he's doing. And who's to say we're not trying it on our own in the meantime?

In my experience, I'd say that most of the peeps on this board do fairly well in their tabbing. The key may be off sometimes, but the progressions are usually right on. And the new guys learn a thing or two.

What's the difference between getting helpful tabs from guys on here and sitting around with them and playing? Did you teach yourself every song you know? Doubt it. And even those who request tabs submit their own now and then. I've put up a few myself. Doesn't mean I don't need help sometimes. Isn't that what this board is for? Or is it just so we can fluff our "sweet axes"?

my $.02

Dude I said for those who know what they are doing. I dont expect a new guitarist to do everything by ear. I didnt do it all by ear i admit. But i do most now.

If he has been playing for 11 years and doesnt know how to read standard notation or write stuff out by ear then he probably doesnt have the same motivations that I do. Im going to be a proffessional guitarist. Not nessecarily famous but music will be my career. So learning that stuff is almost imparitive. Though for him he might do it only for self enjoyment and not want to or feel the need to go any farther than where he is now.

hahah, ya, swede's right, you come off as a cocky little prick. No one will want to work with you. Become more humble and you will go far, you definately have the motivation, that's good, just work on the ego.
