Re-stringing help?
Re-stringing help?
This is only the second time I've restrung my guitar, I'm still not great at it. But anyway, I'm having problems with the High E string. I got the whole guitar restrung fine, and I was playing it for a little while. Then I set it down for a couple hours, and when I came back the high E string had come off. I tried for like 20 minutes to wind it back up last night, but I couldn't do it....it kept coming out of the peg-hole, most of the time it was right when I started winding it up. Finally today I tried again and got it all the way wound up, and I thought I got it. But it kept falling out of tune, and sure enough, it was loosening up. And a few minutes later, it just went "twang" and came undone again. What do I do? I can't keep the blasted string in the peg-hole.

No, you guys aren't getting what I'm saying. I'm talking about the other end of the guitar. The neck (?). You know the pegs, there's three on each side, and you put the strings in the holes in the pegs, and then wind them up? Yeah, the string won't stay in those pegs. It keeps coming loose. I have no idea why.

Ok......now what you do is take the string you put on off. And put a new one on. DONT CUT THE EXCESS STRING OFF UNTIL YOUR DONE TUNING!!!!!!!!! Now you dont have to put it through the hole more than once but its a good idea to. Basically put the string through the hole then wrap it around and put it through again and repeat that as much as you want. Then turn the tuning knob until its tight and to be on the safe side, tuned. Then you can cut off the excess string. Or you can wrap it around again and sort of roll it like it comes in the package so its kind of rolled on your head. I dont know how to explain that part well or even if I explained the other part well.

Grr, I'm horrible at this. Ok, I didn't have any more light strings, so I practiced with one medium (that's not gonna hurt my guitar if I leave that on for a few days, is it?)....anyway, I got it on, but it's really ghetto-rigged. Can anyone point me in the direction of a web site that has detailed instructions on how to do this the right way? Thanks a ton.
