Is John Mayer a better guitar player than Dave Matthews?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Umm, Jason, all I have to say is that you need to listen to some more music.

And for people who say that anyone with enough skills can rip off good solos, you really don't know what you're talking about.

I'm sorry, but I really get sick and tired of the way the DMB community absolutely worships Dave Matthews. I have no problems with personal opinions, but there's cold, hard fact here that totally blows out of the water so many of the "opinions" of people here.

Oh, and Jason, you have compared yourself to Mayer, most recently in this thread, where you said that you were a better guitar player than him.

I've said this once but I'll say it again. John defintly relies more on his ability as a guitarist, rather than a song writer. Dave is quite the opposite all though he still is a good guitar player. he is just a lot more soulful and powerful in his lyrics. This is what truly seperates Dave and John. Also Dave is part of a band, and although he is the front man, he is still part of band. Listening to Mayer I feel he is just him..and his "back-up band". theses things really set the two apart.

Preach it. Dave is great at what he does. I would even say amazing at it. He writes incredible, beautiful moving songs and wonderful, poetic lyrics. He meshes very well with his band (and Timmy), and has a very distinct sound and feel. But he is far from a great guitarist. He can play, and play well... but based on comments I have read on this board, you would think the man is the greatest player in the world.

The mere fact that so many here have capably copied/covered his sound should speak volumes.

I'd love to find out how many of you can play some of the stuff John Mayer plays, and play it the exact same way he plays it.

and this is coming from somebody who absolutely HATES John Mayer's music. But, (if I recall correctly) the man got into Berklee for god's sakes.
