Anybody else hit all kinds of harmonics on ants when lazy?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Anybody else hit all kinds of harmonics on ants when lazy?

Unread post by mbgreen » Thu Sep 16, 2004 10:27 pm

I do. If I play a little buzzed or lazy, my verse is riddled with harmonics. They actually sound really cool. Its cause when I mute the strings for the "chickas" immediately after hitting the d and g chord, I'll lightly lay my finger down over the 5th fret. Anybody else get this?

PS...also happens on smts.

this happens to me actully not as often as i would like it to. i love it when i hit those harmonics. right after the d and g chords. if you think about it, which i have, it is perfectly logical cause your hand automatically goes to the fifth fret during the song. it drives me nuts sometimes cause i'd like to do it all the time but when i try i can't.
the same happens to on jimi thing as well but i can control that one. right after the a chord before the 7-6 hammeron i lay down the harmonics at the 7th fret and it sounds awesome to me.
too bad none of us can lay down a track of this happening cause it always happens on accident
what can you do?

I've never had that problem, but I'll try it, see what it sounds like.

I can actually do it on call now, but I'll record it later tonight when I'm a little drunk. It'll make it more fun. :)

the best/easiest harmonic to do is on the 12th fret. put you finger over the 12th fret on a string, but don't push it down, just lay it there as if you were muting it. it has to be over the metal part, not the space where you would usually put your finger to play a note in the 12th fret. then pluck the string.
you can also do harmonics on the 5th and 7th fret. you can tune your guitar using those. i.e. the harmonic on the 5th fret of the low E string is the same as the harmonic on the 7th fret of the A string.
