Warehouse help

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Warehouse help

Unread post by scottwagen » Wed Sep 15, 2004 10:03 am

Hey everyone,
My first post in a while, I've shyed away from posting after being ripped up about a couple polls I started, but the bitterness has passed. Anyways, I'm having some trouble with warehouse. I can get my fingers in the right places and I can keep the rythm but I can't keep it clean at all. I keep accidentally strumming open E or other chords and I can't figure out how Dave plays it so clean. I know he's a master at hitting the right string and avoiding the wrong ones, but I was just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to play it without hitting the open strings by accident.
Cheers.

play it slow..a bunch of times to get the accuracy down...and of course practice practice...if you want to learn it it should be the #1 song u play.

yes, this is extreemely helpful, give it a shot.

also, there really shouldn't be any OPEN strings, you should try to mute them all i think, or pretty close to them all.

good luck

i think the best thing that helped me was when i was taught how to palm mute it. You must basically rest your palm on the very back of the strings closest to the bridge and strum accordingly... this eliminates the open strings from ringing and gives it a real clean/crisp sound.

playing the album and the live version are two different things. the way you want to learn it is the live version. i have heard only two live versions that dave has played warehouse the album version. stop time intro is a great way to strenthen' your playing. keep practicing cause one day it will hit you and you'll be amazed. playing the guitar is a wonderful gift if you have the desire to learn.
i've been playing for over five years w/o training and i'll say that dave's style is an amazing one to perfect.
