Unread post by dbapollo » Tue Sep 14, 2004 9:26 am

DMB is a great band, but unlike most bands, each of the members are insanely great at what they do!

The question is which of them is the best at the instrument he plays.

What do you guys think?

I dunno about that. When I think bass I think three things...

1) Jaco Pastorius
2) Victor Wooten
3) Flea

Yes Carter is a God, but how can you easily dismiss Leroi. I think that Carter doesnt show off as much as he should. I think he should play more solos. But then again, we wouldnt lust for them when he does go crazy back there.

I think he was looking for relative comparisions to other people who play the same instruments. If it's just inside the band then of course they are the best at their respective instruments.

Anyhow, I think that Carter is the most accomplished on the drums than anyone else is on their instruments.

Jaco is a cocky prick, wooten is god, and has far better technical skills then anyone else with a bass in their hands, and flea plays simple slap melodies, which are really, really, catchy, but as far as his skill goes he is extremely overrated. I look up to him, he's one of my favorites, but he isn't a god by any means. He was one of the first to bring the slap and pop technique to pop music, and that is why he is hailed as ...incredible.

stefan is probably the best bassist that the dmb will ever come across, no question. nobody could replace him and fit that role as well. that is because him and carter create a fucking huge pocket with just tons of groove because they've played together forever. nobody will come close.

and i think it goes something like this..

Carter
Roi
Boyd
Dave/Butch/Stefan

I took it to mean that who within the band is best at whatever instrument they play - therefore, the question being is Carter better at drums than Dave is at guitar. I stand by my decision whole-heartedly. Leroi brings a great groove to the band, but he's really not that good of a sax player. Boyd above Stefan AND Butch? That's pushing it...

I hope no one voted for Carter thinking that he is the best at Drums.

Id kill something (preferably that person) if someone did.
